FASHION

Vintage Polka Dot with a splash of yellow

This shoot began with our MUA and stylist@updopro1 attending a pinky promise meeting and connecting with our model Sarah through fellowship. We decided to shoot on the peninsula at Yorktown Beach. My history with Yorktown Beach goes back to one of our first weddings that taught us a lesson that every photographer should know about shooting on a beach and lakefront, and that is make sure your bride shows up before dark. Our first encounter had us waiting on the riverfront beach in the dark with the rest of the 50 or so guest that were invited. This situation grew even more out of control when the planning service hosting event had also not planned for the late arrival of the bride thus the reception was also in utter darkness as well ( real story!).

Secondly, our next attempt was a unknown recording artist whose management was indecisive about the art direction of the artist. This shoot was a utter disaster as well. Enter Sarah our fellow sister in Christ and Pinky Promise member, whose cool and laid back character was the key component in making our third attempt at Yorktown Beach a success. The forecast for this particular Sunday was 10% percent chance of rain which latter turned into 30% chance by 4pm, let's just say that at 4:30 we were ushered inside one of the restuarants on the riverwalk. This pause allowed us to sit and enjoy a time of fellowship with Sarah as we all got to know each. After then rain cleared we setup our gear and began to shoot, the images came out amazing as we shot on the beach. Stay tuned as we go through the post processing in Photoshop, Camera Raw, and Lightroom.

BEAUTY

WHITE DRESS / DEEP WOODS

This photoshoot came about when our MUA and stylist @updopro1 was on a routine trip to Wally World (Wal-Mart) when she saw Abriah and Nadja walking with their mother when she approached them and asked if they would be interested in a photo session. When the idea was pitched to the rest of the team we knew it was time to capture the woods adjacent to Great Bridge Park. I had previously seen this location and thought to myself how cool would it be to have a shoot with a couple of girls with ballons and lace. Well the lace part was later thrown out due to the ages of the girls. When everyone arrived I had yet to put the props in place so it just looked like a pile of dirt in the woods. The bugs were relentless which later prompted us to always have bug spray as a protocol.

Soon after the props were in place we began our first series of shots with both girls, the wind became a factor when the balloons would not stay in place. The pile of dirt also had a slew of spiders crawling all over it ( lucky me ). I soon began to notice that the images began to take shape after adjusting the lighting and my position. The next area was the marsh overlook which was under construction ( they were adding decking to allow hikers to safely navigate through the woods to the overlook ). We would like to take time to thank both Abriah and Nadja for their time and effort, awesome job!

BEAUTY

DRAMATIC PURPLE MAKEUP

This installment of our beauty series with @updopro1 had the RWM team at Battlefield Park located in Chesapeake. The initial idea was to capture our model Jayla in a rustic setting with dramatic posing. The dress was purchased at a vintage store at a very reasonable price. The decision to shoot on this day was last minute and we really didnt have a clue what we were going to do. There was a another park across the street that had a amazing marsh overlook in the woods, that area would later be used for our shoot with Abriah and Nadja.

Once again we focused on the setting first and adjusted the lighting accordingly. As the sunlight faded we noticed the images started to become more dramatic as we continued to shoot. I would like to thank the entire RWM team for an awesome job!

BRIDAL

BRIDAL EDITORIAL SERIES

Bridal season is here once again... a time filled with blooming trees, warm weather, and couples making the everlasting commitment of love. We chose the historical Fort Monroe for our first annual "Bridal Editorial" photoshoot. Our entire staff spent countless hours preparing to deliver a remarkable series of images to kickoff the wedding season. The rustic soul of the decayed landscape made for the perfect juxtaposition. Whether finding the perfect dress or making the final decision on the location for your special day we encourage lovers of all ages to discover the possibilities of thinking outside the box when it comes to your bridal images.

This editorial concentrates on the bold and sheering thought of two souls getting lost amid a concrete jungle. Our bride wanders hopelessly to find her tall and handsome rescuer who waste no time to free her love of the confinement of loneliness. The magnetic connection delivers the subtle contrast as defined as his sharp jaw line. The journey nears as she realizes her prince has arrived.

This feature would not be possible without the vigorous dedication of Hair Stylist UPDOPRO, and our amazing models. I would like to thank everyone who made our first installment a success!

CIVIL WAR

BATTLE OF GREAT BRIDGE REENACTMENT

This nation was divided by a difference in opinion rather the very essence of what truth they believed. As these core values split the nation in half it is rather clear that they were both willing to die for what they stood. RWM had the pleasure of capturing the event held at Battlefield Park in Chesapeake Virginia. Since the arrival of colonial settlers in 1620, Chesapeake has played a major role in the birth of the United States of America. In fact, Chesapeake is home to the Battle of Great Bridge. This Revolutionary War battle helped solidify the Continental Army's reclaim on Virginia and drive the British Government from the colony.

Early morning on December 9, 1775, British troops advanced over the Great Bridge toward a waiting militia. Ordered to hold fire by Captain Travis, patriot troops waited as the British troops drew nearer. Seeing the militia's inactivity, British captain Fordyce believed that they had abandoned their redoubt and proclaimed, "The day is our own!" It was at this point that the patriot troops sprung to action and dolled a devastating blow to British troops, forcing them to turn back.

To honor our heritage, Chesapeake hosts an annual reenactment event each December to retell the story of the battle to new generations. Join Chesapeake each year for this two-day event, and step back in time to revisit two important Revolutionary War Battles - the Battle at Kemps Landing and the Battle of Great Bridge. The event includes war encampments, demonstrations, character portrayals, children's activities and more.

PATRIOTIC FESTIVAL

Hampton Roads, Virginia is home of the largest military bases in the USA. Virginia Beach, the largest resort city on the east coast is hosting The Patriotic Festival— a military celebration to honor our armed forces personnel and their families.

The Patriotic Festival celebrates the military at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront for three days of National Touring Artists Concerts, along with military display & demos and a three day Oceanfront Air Show featuring The Blue Angels. Red Weasel Media did their part in saluting our brave troops serving now and in the past by capturing this amazing event. RWM ask you to remember the men and women of the United States military and Armed Forces for their heroism and the sacrifices they make for Americans.

FASHION

PICTURE PERFECT

The concept of the picture perfect came along as we brainstormed with our client as to how do we clearly challenge ourselves to visually produce another slam dunk makeup campaign. We started with taking our gear indoors and shoot a simple yet elegant makeup look with a play on color. The purple and pink hues would have special attention given our approach to lighting. The final visuals stunned us all factoring in all the preplanning for the shoot our post-production efforts were minimal.

The Hello Kitty theme gave us the opportunity to stick with the selected hues to deliver a more consistent look. We then added the BEATS headphones to give the look a more editorial stance in efforts to contrast the makeup and the model. The lighting was another approach altogether, we used several different sources (strobes, flashgun, beauty dishes, etc.) to give the makeup the opportunity to pop. We want to thank our model Jayla Tyler for an amazing effort.

BEAUTY

DREAM CAMPAIGN

Makeup can be a fun and playful thing to experiment with, especially for young girls, but with so many different brands and options to choose from, deciding what to purchase and from what retailer can be difficult. Creative cosmetic campaigns however, have utilized a more unique strategy and outside-the-box designs in order to capture the interest of consumers. By incorporating flamboyant colors, and the "Dream" campaign serves to showcase a more imaginative take on ordinary makeup. Our client UPDOPRO has since seen a social media participation increase by 75%.

CELEBRATION

LAST NIGHT ON THE TOWN

Last Night On The Town is a New Year's celebration hosted by the city of Virginia Beach and held at The Town Center of Virginia Beach. This was a free and open to the public event. The celebration starts in the afternoon with fun for the whole family and goes into the evening as the countdown nears with various performances and entertainment. Family remains the focus of the event as there are activities for all ages as most New Year's events are more adult centered

The RWM team was there to enjoy in the celebration. As the countdown neared the crowd grew in size and when it begun the entire mass began to chant. When the new year was announced fireworks rang out from behind the Westin hotel. We have participated for the last two years and it truly is a celebration for all to see.

BEAUTY IS AN ARTFORM

Sometimes we are challenged to create something beautiful with only simple ingredients. UPDOPRO has definitely given us the opportunity to push the envelope again as we set out to deliver another stellar visual campaign. As we set down with the makeup artist we asked her what inspires her to and she replied:

"The most important part of our job, gain the audience attention. Give me someone whom you wouldn't take a second look at I'll make her so beautiful you can't stop staring. My motto, beauty comes from the inside out. My work isn't just making up a face or styling hair. It screams creativity, art and beauty. I give you a piece of me, a work of art, something that's breathtaking, worth talking about and studying. When you think of UPDOPRO I want professionalism to come to mind. I am a professional first. I love this field and I have the licensure and education to prove it."

FLAWLESS BEAUTY CAMPAIGN

Our client UPDOPRO gave the RWM team a tremendous opportunity as we tackled another beauty campaign. The concept started with a blank canvas as we saw the "Flawless Beauty" Campaign transform into a tutorial to inspire young girls at to believe in themselves and apply there own makeup. The photo shoot was location in downtown Norfolk right on the water. The wind became a problem early on but as the magic hour approached we were able to capture the right images within minutes as the sun began to set.

Our approach to the shoot revolved around the ability to use off camera flash with one shoe mount flashgun. We utilized our 35mm and 50mm lenses to accomplish the task. Our model Deja was incredible as she braved the wind and cold for the shoot. Our post-production efforts were minimized due to our settings and lighting.

TRASH THE DRESS

It's been a year in the making but we finally did it. Red weasel Media as a company has done a "Trash the Dress" campaign and it turned out amazing. We were set to go last year, but it started to get cold before we had a chance to pull it off. We placed an ad on Craigslist stating that we were looking for a couple to do some "Trash the Dress" photography. A lovely couple from Washington DC by the name of Daniel & Lauren Perkal replied back and said they would be willing to give it a shot. Once we explained exactly what we were looking for, their excitement level increased even more and they were up for the challenge. We met them at the hotel they were staying in which was located on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. We could look right outside the window and see the ocean. We took some formal pictures first so they could get comfortable working with us. Then we proceeded to walk down to the beach to capture the trash the dress pictures. We left the beach and finished by getting some pictures of the bride in the hotel swimming pool. As a company, we are always finding new ways to be creative when it comes to media on all platforms.

We originally set-up using three different cameras to start the shoot. We used various lenses that day as we shot with a 12-24mm, 50mm, and 35mm. We tend to lean toward the 35mm Nikon lense because of its ability to produce such great pictures no matter the situation.

SHOWCASE

WILJAY MOORE

WilJay Moore is an actor, model, Parkour/Freerunning athlete and dancer. Mostly known for his Parkour (the art of getting from point A to point B using only the human body) roles in various short films and television commercials. He understands that diversity and versatility makes him a unique valuable resource. Wiljay currently resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he spends countless hours perfecting his craft. His favorite catch phrase is the word "BANG" as he refers to as blowing up reality and trying to make it much bigger than it could be.

As we set out to discover the intriguing world of Parkour we were amazed at the attention this sport gathers as crowds started to form around us as we proceeded with the shoot. Our main objective was to capture the very essence of the sport while showcasing the skill and charisma of our subject WilJay Moore. Wiljay amazed us as he took to very challenging jumps and flips as soon as we got started. This young man who can definitely be described as a jack of all trades most surely has a very bright future ahead of himself.

ARTISTIC

URBAN BALLERINA

The definition of a ballerina lies in the beauty of the dance and the conflict of angles that she implies. Our goal was to introduce a story of pictures that suggested that at any given moment triumph could arise in the most profound way. Jayla Tyler was our model of the day as she portrayed the story of a ballerina void of resources who was determined to examine the art of dance and project that at any given place victory could be achieved.

Her posture suggests she has taken time to examine those before her who have a keen ability to amplify the art form. The location was chosen because of its industrial feel and distress. The conflict started to unfold as we noticed that her fierce determination brought the composition of the photos to a beautiful place. The distress of the location gave the story its backdrop and allowed us to bring our vision to reality. We would once again like to thank Jayla Tyler for an outstanding performance.
